HIMSELF
Abraham was asked of God to give up his son for a burning sacrifice. To give up that which he loved the most before God as a test of his obedience. God would have never allowed Abraham's child to be burned, but because of his willingness to obey, God provided instead a ram, which was caught in a thicket for a burning sacrifice. In the scriptures there's a clever wordplay which reads "God will 'provide Himself' a lamb for a burnt offering." This is the substitutionary sacrifice alluding to the slain lamb for all humanity, which is Jesus Christ. This piece explores emotionally what Abraham might have gone through fulfilling such a request by God. Abraham and his son walk the mountainous terrain navigating the valley between.
